Theresa Hindle
Theresa Hindle of Laburnum Drive, Oswaldtwistle passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday 28th October 2017, aged 77 years.
Theresa was the daughter of the late Edna and Edwin Blacket. She grew up in Clayton-Le-Moors and attended St Mary’s RC School. She then went off to work at Highams sewing room in Accrington, where she became good friends with Sheila Ryder, she worked there until she got married to husband William in 1962. She then stayed at home to care for her 3 children.
In 1972 she joined Weight Watcher and became a lecturer in Rawtenstall and Clitheroe.
In her spare time she was a member of St Mary’s Church in Oswaldtwistle. For many years she was a member of their Ladies group, the choir and also the “Dolly Mixtures” an entertainment group who visited local senior citizen centres in care homes around Hyndburn. It was in 1979 along with her friends Anne Doolin and Patricia Boyle that they set up St Mary’s Oswaldtwistle Clog Dancers. They ran this for over 20 years and during that time taught hundreds of local children clog dancing, they also became her second family. They were lucky enough to travel all over the world clog dancing as well as appearing on TV and the radio many times.
Theresa also loved to write Lancashire dialect poetry, in later years she loved to “surf” the net and enjoyed researching her family tree, where she found long lost relatives Dennis & Heather who lived in Australia becoming her dear friend.
One of Theresa’s greatest memories was on a visit to Rome where she had an audience with John Paul II. She fell in love with the Italian language and spent many years studying it.
She was a lovely friend to many people and always put others first. She cared for several friends over the years often taking them to hospital appointments and also doing their shopping.
Theresa will be missed by many friends and her family. She was a wonderful lady who will be missed by all who knew her.
A beloved wife of William, a devoted loving mother of Deborah, Jacqueline & William, a treasured grandma of Caroline & Graham, Catherine & Julian, Christopher & Sarah, Lewis & Emily, a much loved great grandma to Carlton & Oliver and Owen & Maia.
