Roy Albert Lockwood

Roy Lockwood of Foxhill Bank Brow, Oswaldtwistle died peacefully surrounded by his loving family and close friend on Saturday 27^th June, 2015, aged 79 years.

Best known to many for his role as a Welfare Officer for the Royal British Legion, a post which he held for many years until his recent ill health. Roy devoted a great deal of his time to care and help countless people throughout Hyndburn. He was a true gentleman and often helped out and supported many charity events.

Before and after his service for the Army in the Royal Engineers, he worked as a vehicle maintenance engineer for Taylor Brothers on Queens Road West, Accrington.

In his spare time Roy was a member of numerous military associations, a school governor, and also a member of the New Lane Baptist Church.  He also supported and worked alongside his late wife Jean during her time as a Councillor for the local Conservative Party.

Roy’s continuous dedication and hard work was rewarded when he received the Honorary Freedom of the Borough Award.

In his younger days Roy was a keen walker and angler.  Laterly he enjoyed a stroll with his little dog “Tetley” around Foxhill Bank Nautre Reserve.  He loved socialising and also spending time with his family and close friends.

A beloved husband of the late Jean, a much loved father of Shirley, a dear father in law of John, a treasured grandad to Jamie,  Matthew and their partners Annabel and Georgina and also a good friend to many.  Roy will be very sadly missed by all his loving family, friends and fellow members of the Royal British Legion.

Peacefully residing in the Chapel of Rest at The Old Foxhill until Saturday 3^rd July where he will then reside at home.  The funeral cortege will leave from his home for a service at New Lane Baptist Church, Oswaldtwistle at 1.00pm on Monday 6th July 2015, prior to interment at Dill Hall Cemetery.  Family flowers only please, but donations are welcomed in memory of Roy for the Royal British Legion or Cancer Research c/o Barton & Hallworth Funeral Service, The Old Foxhill, 136 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle.
