Norman Sumner
Norman Sumner of York Lane, Langho and formerly of Church, Accrington, passed away peacefully, after a battle bravely fought, on Friday 15th January 2021, aged 80 years.
During his life Norman was a hard worker and on leaving school was a Fireman at Rosegrove Station, working in London. He then took his HGV licence and became a wagon driver for Gilbraith in Accrington, before later driving for Tim Martin’s at Blackburn.
Sport has been a particular, favourite past time of Norman’s, from playing football during the 1980’s for various clubs including Enfield, as well as watching the cricket. He was also a season ticket holder at Blackburn Rovers and Accrington Stanley, taking his son Jeffrey with him. Later in life, during his retirement he was an avid member of Whalley Bowling Club and worked on maintaining the bowling green to be its best. He was also a passionate railway enthusiast and loved watching trains, he also had a wonderful collection of train memorabilia and enjoyed attending train auctions.
Norman loved socialising and was always the life and soul of any gathering and greatly enjoyed spending time with his loving family.
He will be very sadly missed by all those who knew him.
A dearly loved husband of Christine, a much loved father of Jeffrey, Diane and Heather, a loving grandad of Lucinda, James, Jordon, Ryan and Ellena and also a loving great grandad to Freddie and Indy.
A private funeral service for family and close friends will be held due to the current restrictions.
