Michael (Mick) Smith

Mick Smith, of Ravenswood, Great Harwood and formerly of Huncoat, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Friday 28th April 2023, aged 78 years.

Throughout his life Mick was a hard worker and was a local haulage contractor, buying his first wagon at the age of 24, he developed his business and branched out into international haulage.  In 1985, he also bought a newsagent’s in Huncoat.

When he was younger, he spent many happy years managing two local football teams – Huncoat United and Within Rovers, of which during this time he brought home numerous victories and achievements for the clubs.

After taking his retirement, he greatly enjoyed going on holiday together with his wife Janet and the couple have travelled extensively around the world.  He also loved going on cruises and on his round the world cruise, he singled out Alaska as his favourite destination.  Spain was another place close to Mick’s heart as he loved spending time in the sun, at his home from home in Mira Flores.

Another big passion in his life was shooting and working his Springer Spaniels, he was also an active member of the BASC – British Association for Shooting and Conservation.  Closer to home he loved sport, in particular football and cricket, he was a huge Burnley FC supporter and has followed them all his life and over the years has enjoyed many happy times watching the games with his family.

He sadly leaves behind his dearly loved wife Janet, his treasured sons Mark and Gary and his treasured grandchildren, Natalie, Samantha, Georgia, Owen, Joshua, Sophie.

Mick will be very sadly missed but fondly remembered by all his loving family, friends, and work colleagues.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12.20pm, on Friday 12th May 2023, at Accrington Cemetery Chapel prior to interment.
