Maureen Robbins, of Earby and formerly of Oswaldtwistle, sadly passed away on Thursday 16th April 2026, aged 91 years.

In her younger years after completing her training at Myrtle Street Hospital in Liverpool, Maureen would become a children’s nurse at Accrington Victoria Hospital before later becoming the nurse manager of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Queen’s Park Hospital in Blackburn.

In her spare time and during her retirement she kept herself busy with many different activities and hobbies.  She was an avid traveller having visited many countries as well as every continent, where she had a particular interest in the world’s wildlife.  She enjoyed reading, watching crime dramas, playing board games, doing puzzles and also quizzes.  Her faith also played an important role with her attending numerous churches over the years, including Holy Apostles in Cheltenham, St Paul’s in Oswaldtwistle and St James and Cobham Road Mission in Accrington and most recently St Mary’s in Kelbrook, where she was a member of the PCC.

Maureen was also an active volunteer in her local community and a member of the Oswaldtwistle Civic Society. She would regularly participate in puppet groups and often bake, knit and make craft items for community fundraisers to help raise much needed funds, as well as being a lifetime supporter of many charities including UNICEF, the RNLI and other numerous children and animal charities.

A dearly loved wife of the late Donald. Maureen sadly leaves behind her much-loved children Gillian and Philip, her treasured grandchildren Georgina, Sophie, Howard and Gregory, great grandchildren Ezra and Micah and the family of her late sister Elsie.

Her funeral service will take place at 11.00am, on Wednesday 6th May 2026, at St Mary’s Church, Kelbrook prior to committal at Accrington Crematorium.

Family flowers only please, with donations in memory of Maureen being gratefully received for UNICEF, further enquires please to Barton & Hallworth Funeral Service, The Old Foxhill, 136-8 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle. BB5 3DR.  Tel: 01254 390542.
