James (Jim) Baldwin
Jim Baldwin formerly of Fern Avenue, Oswaldtwistle, sadly passed away at Hope House, Clayton-Le-Moors on Tuesday 5th September 2017, aged 95 years.
Jim started his working life at the age of 14 for Spencer & Beattie Ltd, Springworks, where he remained for 47 years up until his retirement at the age of 61.
In the evenings and at the weekend and more so during his retirement Jim was a member of Rhyddings Methodist Church and the Accrington Male Voice Choir, his real passion has always been singing, mostly in churches and he was well known for the sound of his baritone voice, especially when performing in the local Amateur Operatic Society. He also enjoyed listening to classical music.
For many years he was chairman of the Inskip League of Friendship, during which time he started Dial A Ride covering Accrington and the surrounding districts, it was for this service that he was awarded an MBE, in the Queen’s New Year’s honours list in 1971.
Jim sadly leaves behind his dearly loving wife Margaret and his much loved children Malcolm, Alison and David. He will be sadly missed by all his loving family and friends.
His funeral service will be held on Friday 15th September 2017 at 11.40am at Accrington Crematorium.
