Irene Duffy

Irene DuffyIrene Duffy, formerly of Kirk House, Tampits Rd, Church, died suddenly at Church View Care Home on Wednesday 13th January, 2016, aged 87 years.

During her life Irene worked as a Post Office assistant for over 40 years at the branches of Blackburn and Huncoat.  In her younger years she was a dedicated and highly respected Brown Owl at St James’ Church in Accrington, here she volunteered for 40 years. As well as running the weekly Brownie meetings she also was near at hand helping out many others, however some of her proudest moments were those of the Brownie Queen Ceremonies, of which Irene took charge of all the arrangements and organised them right up until her retirement at the age of 60.

Irene sadly leaves behind her dearly loved sister Elsie, she was also a much loved aunt of Susan, Anne, Steven and Helen, a treasured great aunt of Marc, Victoria, Matthew, Emma, Jessica and Johnathan and a dear great aunt to Megan and Oliver.

Her funeral service will be held on Monday 25th January 2016, at 1.00pm at Accrington Crematorium.  Family flowers only please but donations are welcome in memory of Irene for The Children’s Society, further enquires please to Sarah Barton c/o Barton & Hallworth Funeral Service, The Old Foxhill, 136 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle.
