  1. Howard was a very keen and enthusiastic walker. He always had his camera with him and made detailed photographic records of all his walks. He welcomed all new walkers to groups and offered to walk with them. He led walks for Spring Vale Rambling Class Darwen. Howard has left his footprints in Yorkshire, Derbyshire, the Lake District, North Wales, across Lancashire especially Hyndburn and many other places such as one of his favourite places Hebden Bridge and Hardcastle Craggs. He will be missed by everyone on the NE Lancs Coach Rambles monthly walks and many of us our sharing our happy memories of him. He will be missed by many many people and walking groups.

  2. Howard was a good friend and dependable walking companion. If he said he was attending a walk he would always show up on time. Howard joined the Spring Vale Rambling Class about five years ago and was a very popular member. He suggested many new walking areas for the club to explore. His favourite areas were the hills and valleys of the Hebden Bridge and Todmorden area. Howard could always be found at the front of the walk, invariably taking lots of photographs of his exploits, to be displayed in his online albums, for the benefit of his friends to relive his last adventure. Howard chatted to everyone he met and supported newer members with help and encouragement.
Howard was also in regular attendance on the North East Lancashire Coach Rambles, he enjoyed walking in new areas in the North of England. His photographs of these walks were also keenly followed by his friends. At the end of the walking day Howard enjoyed nothing more than to sample whatever real ale the local breweries had to offer, surrounded with fellow walkers discussing the day exploits.
My lasting memory of Howard will be his always smiling face, even when the weather was atrocious with the rain running down our necks. He will be sadly missed by all his friends.

  3. So welcoming when I first started running with the group. Always encouraging, cheerful and chatty. Loved reading his posts of his rambles and ‘pub’ endings. Rest in peace Howard.

  4. Absolutely loved running with Howard. He was one of the kindest, supportive people I have ever met. Loved his positivity and energy. Thank you for being you. Sending all my love to his family.xxx
