Mr George Allen of Apple Tree Way, Oswaldtwistle, died suddenly on Friday, May 23, 2014.

At the age of fifteen George left school to become an apprentice jockey based at Peter Makin’s Racing Stables in Ogbourne Maizey near Marlborough, Wiltshire where he lived for twenty years.  In 1991 he moved back up north and worked as a HGV driver for Wincanton PLC, Trafford Park where he stayed for seventeen years.  George also worked most recently as a HGV driver for Marshalls in Ramsbottom.   In his spare time George took great pleasure in helping out at St Mary’s Panto group as his children are members.  He also enjoyed fishing and caravanning holidays with his family.

The dear son of the late George and Elizabeth, a much loved husband of Kathryn, a loving and treasured daddy of Amy and Joseph, a dear brother of Susan, Deborah, Terry and Jason, a dearly loved son in law of Peter and Gill and also a dear brother in law, uncle and friend to many.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday 5th June at 10.30am at St Mary’s RC Church, Oswaldtwistle prior to interment at Dill Hall Cemetery.   Family flowers only please but donations are welcome in memory of George for the East Lancashire Hospice or the British Heart Foundation and may be sent c/o Paul Barton at Barton & Hallworth Funeral Service, The Old Foxhill, 136 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle.
