Dorothy Smith
Dorothy Smith of Frederick Street, Oswaldtwistle died peacefully at home on Saturday 28th October 2017, aged 79 years.
In her younger years Dorothy attended West End School, then moved up to Rhyddings High School, where she became Head Girl. She then started work at MacFarlane’s, Stonebridge Mill in Oswaldtwistle as a shorthand typist. After raising her family she was the Landlady at the Tinker and Budget Pub for a time and then for the past 30 years she worked for Owen & Ewing Insurance Brokers on Union Road. She was also a well-known figure in Oswaldtwistle and would often be seen out and about when walking her dogs Jetson, Holly and Timmy.
Dorothy loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, crosswords and going on holidays, when the children were little she took pleasure in caravan holidays to the seaside, especially Morecambe and Blackpool, then later on in life travelling abroad to places including Spain, Greece and Germany. She also loved cruising the Mediterranean and around the Norwegian Fjords as well as travelling to Vancouver in Canada during the last 10 years.
Dorothy was the devoted and dearly loving wife of Tom, a much loved mother of Steven, David, Ian and Stuart, a dear mother in law of Cath ad Suzanne, a treasured grandma of Heather, Leah, Megan, James, Josh and Ellie and also a cherished great grandma of Tillie, Freddie, Harry, Ruby, Scarlett, Lottie and Phoebe.
Her funeral service will take place at 11.00am on Monday 6th November 2017 at Stanhill Methodist Church prior to committal at Accrington Crematorium.
