Derek Roberts

Derek Roberts of Fielding Lane, Oswaldtwistle, passed away on 19^th March 2024, aged 77 years.

Derek was a time served engineer at Mullards and, at the age of 21 he joined the Merchant Navy, travelling around the world visiting places across Africa, East Asia, North & South America and countless more over a 25-year career, reaching the rank of Chief Engineering Officer. After leaving the Merchant Navy, Derek served as Chief Engineering Officer on cruise liners and on supply ships supporting the North Sea Oil Rigs for several years, before settling at home and retiring at the age of 59.

Derek’s main hobby was travelling and cars, after his retirement he would spend several months a year with his brother Brian visiting India, Vietnam, Cambodia, and countries across Europe. When at home, Derek also loved to spend time socialising in Oswaldtwistle with his brother, going to the gym and spending time with his nephews & nieces.

Derek sadly leaves behind nephews Mark, Philip and David, their wives Ann and Keeley, his great nephews Matthew, Ellie, Mia & Christina. Also, a dearly loved son of the late Harry & Eileen and dear brother to the late Brian and Pat.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3.00pm on Tuesday 2^nd April 2024, at Accrington Crematorium.
