Cllr Edward Blake
Edward Blake of Manchester Road, Baxenden, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Wednesday 6th November 2024.
Eddie as he was known to family and friends, started his working life as an apprentice, going on to become a skilled lathe turner and later a toolmaker. After several years, he then studied hard to attain his teaching certificate, where he taught both Engineering and English at various schools in Salford and across Lancashire before taking his retirement.
Eddie was also a political activist for many years and was recently elected as a ward councillor for Baxenden in May 2024, where he worked tirelessly for his local area and was extremely proud to become the first Labour Councillor to represent the community where he lived.
In his spare time and during his retirement Eddie enjoyed walks in the countryside either on his own or with friends. He would usually be found at the end of each day on his allotment enjoying a cuppa, writing about his day. He was also an animal lover and would often look after residents’ pets whilst they were on holiday as well as looking after many of the stray cats in the area. He also attended St Anne’s RC Church for many years but more recently regularly attended St Mary’s RC Church in Clayton-Le-Moors.
Eddie will be very sadly missed by all those who knew him.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11.00am on Thursday 21st November 2024 at St Mary’s RC Church, Clayton-Le-Moors, prior to committal at Accrington Crematorium.
No flowers please, but donations are being welcomed in memory of Eddie for Happy Cats Hyndburn, c/o Barton & Hallworth Funeral Service, The Old Foxhill, 136-8 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle. BB5 3DR.
