Thomas (Tom) BartonMr Thomas Barton of White Ash Estate, Oswaldtwistle, formerly of Accrington died peacefully in the Royal Blackburn Hospital after a short illness on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, aged 92 years.

Known to his family and friends as Tom he started his working life in the RAF in the 1939 Regiment, where he occupied the aerodromes in Norway.  He then briefly worked putting up and repairing the lights at Blackpool Illuminations before settling into doing what he loved best, serving the public as a green grocer, in Accrington and opening Bartons “Fish and Fruit” on Blackburn Road which he ran up until his retirement in 1987.

Most of all Tom enjoyed spending time with his much loved family and friends.

Tom leaves behind, his much loved daughters Margaret and Doris, his dearly loved son-in-laws Wolly and Brian, a treasured grandad to Wendy, Jenny, Steven and his wife Emma and Natalie, a great grandad to Luke and Jessica, a loving brother to John and the late Henry, Alice and Frank, a dear brother-in-law to Jean, Betty, Jenny and late brother in law Malcolm. He was also a dearly loved uncle and a great-uncle to many.

“Tom was a hard working gentleman, now reunited with his much loved wife Margaret.  He will be very sadly missed by all his loving family and friends.”

A funeral service will be held on Friday 1st November at 12.20pm at Accrington Crematorium.  Family Flowers only please, but donations are welcome in memory of Tom and may be sent for the East Lancashire Hospice, c/o Barton & Hallworth Funeral Service, The Old Foxhill, 136 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle.
