James (Jim) Georgeson

James (Jim) Georgeson - 1James Georgeson formerly of Altham Village, died peacefully in a private nursing home on Friday 1st April 2016, aged 105 years.

Jim as he was known to his friends, worked from the age of 15 at the Calder Pit in Altham, then during the war he worked at Cockers Chemicals. He later worked for English Electrics on boilers and then as a waterman at the Altham Water Treatment Plant.

Throughout his life Jim has been a devoted member of St James’ Church in Altham, where he was a familiar face and served as its Church Warden for over 35 years. He was also a school governor for the local village school.

In his spare time Jim loved nothing more than working on engines.  He took pleasure in riding both motorcycles and later on in life his pushbike and was often seen cycling up and down Burnley Road where friends were always greeted with a wave.   He was also honoured to receive Maundy money from The Queen in 2014.

Jim was a dearly beloved father of Pat and a treasured grandad of Samantha.

His funeral service will take place at 10.45am on Tuesday 12th April 2016 at St James’ Parish Church, Altham prior to committal at Burnley Crematorium.  Family flowers only please but donations are welcomed in memory of Jim for St James’ Church in aid of the roof appeal, further enquires please to Sarah Barton at Barton & Hallworth Funeral Service, The Old Foxhill, 136 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle.
