Francis Hughy Cross
Francis Cross of Eagle street, Accrington, passed away on Monday 18th November 2019, aged 90 years.
In his youth Francis attended Rhyddings High School and then had a variety of careers including working at Church Gas Works, Joseph Arnolds, , Kearns & Allens (Bleach Dryers), Sherfin Corn Mill and Brooke Bond Oxo in Great Harwood, many of which he was the shop steward, he also worked at the Co-Op as an insurance agent.
In his spare time and throughout his retirement Francis was a member of many groups including the Great Harwood Male Voice Choir, the Arthritics Society and the Accrington Victorians, he was also a past Chairman and honorary member of the Accrington & District Fishing Club, a strong member of the Union, a life member of the Poplar Working Men’s Club as well as being involved in the Accrington Wine Society and many other groups.
He also enjoyed brewing his own gin, wine and liqueurs.
A beloved husband of Alice and the late Dorothy, a dear brother of Martha and the late Jack, a much loved father of Glenn and the late Keith and a treasured grandad of Lee, Francis, Paul, Michelle and the late Martin and also a cherished great grandad of Ethan, Logan, Rose, Phoebe, Elsie and Ralph.
His funeral service will take place on Monday 2nd December 2019, at 12.20pm at the Accrington Cemetery Chapel prior to interment in Accrington Cemetery.
