Dr Patrick Gavin

Dr Patrick Gavin

Patrick Gavin of Warrenside Close, Wilpshire, Blackburn, sadly passed away on Sunday 9th March 2025, aged 84 years.

Pat as he was known to family and friends worked as a teacher, passing on his incredible knowledge to students at Wyggeston Grammar School in Leicester, Ratcliffe College and then most recently, teaching physics at Stonyhurst College, where he was a well-respected teacher and colleague.

In his spare time and during his retirement he liked spending time at the Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery as well as the Clitheroe Branch of University of the Third Age, where he was a member. He also regularly attended Holy Souls RC Church and was a member of the Northwest Catholic History Society.

He loved walking and was part of his local rambler’s association. He was also an avid reader and liked topping up his knowledge, especially in the History of Science.  Pat also enjoyed travelling and has visited many countries including Russia, Germany, America, Ireland and other places in Europe.

A dearly loved husband of Margaret, a much loved father of Benedict, Dominic and Paul and a good friend and colleague of many. He will be very sadly missed by all his family and friends.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at Holy Souls Church, Whalley New Road, Blackburn, at 10.30am, on Thursday 27th March 2025, followed by committal at Pleasington Crematorium. Those attending are invited to wear something bright and colourful (No black attire please).

Family flowers only please but donations are being welcomed in memory of Pat for the British Heart Foundation and may be placed in the donation box on the day or alternatively sent c/o Barton & Hallworth Funeral Service, The Old Foxhill, 136-8 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle.
