Bessie Sandiford

Bessie Sandiford - ObsBessie Sandiford of Pinehurst Hill Street Oswaldtwistle, died peacefully in hospital on Saturday 8th July 2017, aged 83 years.

Born in Leyland in 1934, Bessie moved to Carlisle and went to school there.  Once she left school she went to work for the Treasury Department for the County Council, she then later moved to Colne and worked in the office at Greenhill Velvets, it was here she met her soulmate and husband to be Brian.  She then worked all Allspeeds at Clayton before starting their family Coach and Haulage business called B Sandiford & Son in the early 70’s.  She also served as a local ward Councillor for the Foxhill Bank and St Oswald’s ward on the local district council of Oswaldtwistle before it changed to a borough council under the name of Hyndburn in 1974 where she continued as a councillor for a number of years representing the residents of the new St Oswald’s ward.  She was also a member of the Bradford and Northern Housing Association.  In her spare time she loved spending time in her garden as well as looking after her cats.

She will be very sadly missed by all her loving family and friends.

Bessie was a devoted and dearly loved wife of Brian, a much loved mother of Julie and Colin, a dear mother in law of Ivor and a loving grandma of Benjamin, EmmaLee and Eloise.

Her funeral service will take place at 3.00pm on Monday 17th July at Accrington Crematorium.  The family have requested for bright clothing to be worn.  Family flowers only please, but donations are welcome in memory of Bessie for the RNLI charity c/o Barton & Hallworth Funeral Service, The Old Foxhill, 136-8 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle.
